Bigger lens = wider view but less power; the 70mm is the best all-round starting point for most readers.

Optometrist's tip

A bigger lens shows more words at once but magnifies less, while a smaller lens magnifies more but shows fewer words. If you can read headlines but struggle with body text, start with the 70mm; if you can only manage very large print, try the 48mm. Good overhead or side lighting will make any magnifier work noticeably better.
