Optometrist's tip

Most people with macular degeneration need two to three times more light to read than they did at 20, so an illuminated magnifier often helps more than simply increasing power. The 7x–11x models have short working distances — rest the magnifier on the page and bring your eye close for the widest field of view. If you are unsure which power you need, your optometrist or low vision clinic can measure it for you.
